May I whine for a moment?

I love living in Las Vegas, I really do. I love the sun, the warmth, the new friends we have made, all the restaurants (but not the weight I have gained), the fact that we can be in California, Utah, or Arizona in no time at all, the sparkling lights from the strip, the red rocks--you get the picture. The downside, and it has been a big one, is my inability to keep a job longer than 10 months! Seriously, we have lived here 2 years and 1 month and I just got laid off from my 3rd, yes 3rd job!! Now, I realize it's a sign of the times with the shaky economy, and the industries I have worked in (real estate, development, and construction) have been hit hard, but it's still damn discouraging. This will be my 3rd February in a row without work. I'm concerned about how spotty my resume is starting to look. I'm not a job hopper, really! Anyone that knows me can attest to that! In fact, I even had one job for 13 years. Sigh.

Well, on the bright side, Alan's job is pretty secure (thank God), and having some time off will allow me to play housewife and also work on losing some weight. I am hoping to be called back to my old place of employment if things pick up, but I need to be prepared for the possiblity that I won't be. I guess it's time to try and figure out what I want to do with my life.

Getting laid off is lame. You can whine all you want btw. But only for 1.5 weeks.

I'm sorry! And yes, whine away! That absolutely sucks--money-wise anyway; I'm sure you won't mind having a little more time off to find yourself!

Let me know how playing housewife goes--I've been at it for 14 years and I'm still not particularly good at it. So if you have any pointers...

I have had 3 jobs in the past 4 years. It's hard, but you can do it. Just hang in there.

Sorry to hear that. I hope you find a job that lasts. At the very least you can enjoy the time off!
